Welcome to Eyes Wide Open in Israel, a blog about the ups and downs and the ins and outs of life in the Middle East. In August 2011, my family and I moved from White Plains, New York to Raanana. It is my third time living in this land but my first time doing so with my eyes open to the bad as well as to the good. This time, I packed things that I knew I needed, such as Ray Ban wrap sunglasses, several bottles of 60+ sunscreen, dozens of Costco’s Kirkland Albacore white meat tuna in water, journals and diaries that open from left to right, a Nook to be able to read the latest releases in English, along with the less obvious, the things I have never brought here before: a sense of humor and an open heart. I hope you enjoy reading about my everyday adventures as I navigate my way through this new life.
